Our Story

On the shores of Chapala, in the year 1945, a recipe was born that was never meant to be just another sauce, but a profound expression of resilience, tradition, and Mexican culinary art.

The story says that a woman, known simply as The Widow, turned adversity into creation. A mother of four children, she found in the kitchen not only a way to provide, but also her own language: a perfect alchemy of árbol chilies, carefully chosen spices, and family secrets that gave life to a bold, elegant, and perfectly balanced flavor. This was the origin of what she called The Art of Spice.

For many years, the recipe remained a local treasure, quietly cherished by those fortunate enough to taste it.

Decades later, destiny connected this story with that of Juan Beckmann Vidal, the tenth generation of the Jose Cuervo family. Known for his deep understanding of flavor and Mexican tradition, he discovered this unique recipe and was captivated by its character.

At the privacy of his family table, he began to share it, refine it, and celebrate it. What started as a personal passion soon became a vision: to preserve this legacy and bring it to the world without losing its handcrafted essence.

This is how De La Viuda was born as we know it today: not only a sauce, but a symbol of heritage, sophistication, and authentic Mexican identity.

Each bottle holds more than ingredients—
it carries a story of origin, an elevated family tradition, and an invitation to experience the true luxury of flavor.
